Fielded a youth team in protest and lost by a double-digit margin Fielded a youth team in protest and lost by a double-digit margin In Italy, nine teams from the provinces Piemonte, Liguria and Lombardy contested the championship, which for the first time was played essentially as a "national league". In the end, US Pro Vercelli and FC Internazionale Milano topped the table even on points, well ahead of the two Turin clubs "Juve" and AC. By the rules then in use, Unione Sportiva had the much better goal ratio and so considered itself the old as well as the new Italian champion. However, the Italian football federation (FIGC) ordered a play-off between the two contenders, even though this went against the statutes. Pro Vercelli unsucessfully lodged a complaint against the decision. Thus, on April 24, 1910, they sent a youth team in protest and duly lost to the "Inter" league side by a double-digit margin (3:10).
