South America’s Club of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century (2001-2010) Contrary to the manner in which the top club of each continent was determined for the 20th century (1901-2000), national competitions were held in all countries over the entire first decade after the turn of the millennium. All these national club competitions are taken as much into consideration for the monthly Club World Rankings as are the club competitions held by the continental Confederations and by FIFA. In doing so, each individual result of these aforementioned competitions is considered from start to finish. Hence, for any given continent, chances are the same for each club during the first decade (2001-2010). The yearly points scored by clubs in the Club World Ranking are added from 2001 to 2010, yielding the continental club ranking. The first-placed club is that continent’s top club for the first decade. Adding the yearly points also gives a far more realistical picture of clubs that were particularly successful over one or more years than using reciprocal position of the rankings from the yearly Club World Ranking does. The top clubs can thus be determined the same way for each of the six football continents. CA Boca Juniors Buenos Aires - South America’s Club of the 1st Decade Although the leading trio were not very sucessful in the final two years of the 1st Decade (2001-2010), their lead of points proved to be sufficient. CA Boca Juniors Buenos Aires is South America’s Club of the 1st Decade of the 21 Century, ahead of São Paulo FC and his local rival CA River Plate. South America's Club of the 20th Century (1901-2000), CA Peñarol Montevideo (Uruguay), only makes it to a disappointing 36th place. The best-placed club from Bolivia is Club Bolívar La Paz (39th) and for Venezuela Caracas FC (56th place). The "Top 100" comprise five Argentinian and four Brazilian clubs as well as the sixth-placed Club Nacional de Football Montevideo (Uruguay). But among the 16 top-placed clubs are eight Brazilians. Clubs from all ten countries to the CONMEBOL belonging are represented in the "Top 100". The "Top 100" are composed as following: Brazil (21 clubs), Colombia (16), Argentina (15), Chile (11), Peru (9), Paraguay (7), Ecuador (7), Uruguay (6), Bolivia (6), Venezuela (2). During the period 2001-2010 185 clubs achieved 150 or more points. CA Boca Juniors Buenos Aires will be honoured as America’s Club of the 1st Decade on occasion of the World Football Gala 2011 with a Certificate and a trophy.
