9. July 1939 BSK Beograd: Újpesti TE: In oppressive heat the BSK centre forward Vojin Božović - a very agile, clever technican with a splendid heading ability - put his side 2:0 in lead. With goals scored exchange shortly before and after half-time had the Budapest team looked to have an advantage but the Belgrade full-backs and Gustav Lehner gave brilliant performances. Further goals followed through a penalty for hand ball and an own goal with the match ending in a two goal lead for the hosts. Bajo un calor agobiante el delantero centro del BSK, Vojin Božović un jugador muy ágil, de refinada técnica y con un fabuloso poder cabeceador adelantó a su equipo con un 2:0. Después de un intercambio de goles un poco antes y un poco después del descanso, el equipo de Budapest parecía tener una ventaja óptima, pero los defensas del Beograd y Lehner Gustav ofrecieron brillantes actuaciones. Se produjo otro intercambio de goles con un tanto de penalti por manos y otro en propia puerta, así que el partido finalizó con una ventaja de dos goles para los anfitriones. Durch einen Handelfmeter und ein Eigentor kam es zu einem weiteren Treffertausch, so daß es bei einem Zwei-Tore-Vorsprung für die Gastgeber blieb. Les buts marqué peu avant et après la mi-temps donnèrent l’impression que l’équipe de Budapest avait un avantage. Les arrières de Belgrade et Gustav Lehner furent brillants. D'autres buts furent inscrits d’abord sur un pénalty consécutif à une main et un but contre son camp en fin du match pour donner deux buts d’avance aux locaux.

15. July 1939 Újpesti TE: BSK Beograd: In the return match in Budapest the Belgrade team initially resisted well, showed good technical skill and lots of running. But it was the equalising goal from the ex-Bocskai Jenő Vincze, who had a terrific shot, that rocked Beograd. The second half was then an exhibition by Gyula Zsengellér, who had joined Dr. György Sárosi as a second Hungarian world class star. The nimble artist and goalgetter notched a hat-trick and five goals in total as Újpest reached the final as expected. En el partido de vuelta en Budapest el equipo de Belgrado resistió bien, demostró una gran cualidad técnica y corrió mucho. Pero fue el tanto del ex-Bocskai Jenő Vincze, que tenía un disparo tremendo, el que rompió la igualada poco antes del descanso. La segunda mitad fue una exhibición de Gyula Zsengellér, que se había unido al Dr. György Sárosi como segunda estrella húngara de clase mundial. Este grácil artista del balón y goleador anotó un hat-trick y cinco goles en total, ya que el Újpest llegó a la final tal y como se esperaba. Im Rückspiel in Budapest spielten die Belgrader zunächst all ihre technischen Fähigkeiten und hohe Laufbereitschaft aus und boten den Gastgebern entsprechend Widerstand, der erst durch den Ex-Bocskaier Jenő Vincze, der einen fürchterlichen Schuß besaß, kurz vor der Halbzeit mit dem Ausgleichstreffer gebrochen wurde. Die 2. Halbzeit wurde dann zu einer Gala-Show von Gyula Zsengellér, mit dem Ungarn inzwischen nach Dr. György Sárosi einen zweiten Weltstar besaß. Einen Hat-trick und fünf Tore insgesamt erzielte dieser grazile Ballkünstler und Torjäger. Damit hatte Újpest wie erwartet das Finale erreicht. Au match retour à Budapest, l'équipe de Belgrade résista d abord bien et montra de bonnes choses. Le but égalisateur de Beograd fut inscrit par l ex-Bocskai Jenő Vincze, doté d une terrible frappe. La deuxième mi-temps fut un show de Gyula Zsengellér, qui avait rejoint le Dr. György Sárosi au firmament du football hongrois. L'artiste et agile buteur réussit un coup du chapeau et cinq buts au total. L‘Újpest atteignit la finale comme prévu.
